AT NEW BRACKETT CHURCH, PEAKS ISLAND

Adult Beginning Ballet

Tuesdays, 5:15pm - 6:15pm, April 14 - May 7

We're covering the very basics of ballet techniques with a beginner barre and basic centre work. Develop balance and strength, plus learn terminology and history as we explore this classical art form. This class is for all bodies and all levels. Ballet shoes are encouraged, but as long as you have comfortable clothes and soft foot coverings, you are ready to go! The class is free, but registration is required.

Open Adult Tap

Thursdays, 1:00pm - 1:45pm, April 16 - May 9

This ongoing class is all about the fun! Learn steps and combinations, and maybe even perform with the Peaks Island Follies at the annual Variety Show! New students are encouraged to come and check it out, even if you're not ready to commit to buying tap shoes. Wear comfortable clothes and hard soled shoes. The class is free, but registration is required.

AT PEAKS ISLAND COMMUNITY CENTER

Dancercise

Mondays & Wednesdays, 9:00am - 9:45am, April 13 - May 13

Move to the music to start your day right! We use simple patterns and repetitions so that everyone can get on board. Class starts with warm up and ends with cool down and stretch. In between, our goal is to keep our bodies in motion and our hearts pumping for a 30-minute cardio session. Wear comfortable clothes and supportive athletic shoes (bring a clean pair to change when you come in from the weather!) Registration is through Portland Parks and Recreation.

Body Conditioning

Thursdays, 2:15pm - 3:15pm, April 16 - May 14

Combine mat work, strength training, and stretching exercises to improve muscle tone, agility, and balance. Participants should be comfortable getting down to the floor (and back up again!). Please come prepared in comfortable clothing and supportive shoes, and bring your own mat if you can. Resistance bands, hand weights, and straps, as well as a limited number of mats, are available for use on site. Registration is through Portland Parks and Recreation.
